Access Bridge Safeguarding Policy
1. Introduction
Access Bridge is committed to ensuring that all interactions with vulnerable individuals, including asylum seekers, refugees, and low-income households, are conducted safely and ethically. This safeguarding policy outlines our approach to protecting individuals from harm and ensuring that staff and volunteers understand their responsibilities.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all Access Bridge staff, volunteers, trustees, and partners who engage with vulnerable individuals in any capacity.
3. Safeguarding Principles
Access Bridge upholds the following key safeguarding principles:
Zero Tolerance for Abuse – We do not tolerate any form of abuse, exploitation, or discrimination.
Dignity and Respect – All individuals are treated with respect and dignity.
Confidentiality – Personal information is handled with strict confidentiality and shared only when necessary for safeguarding purposes.
Empowerment – Vulnerable individuals are encouraged to have a say in their care and protection.
Accountability – We maintain clear reporting structures and ensure all concerns are addressed appropriately.
4. Recognising and Reporting Safeguarding Concerns
4.1 Types of Abuse
Physical Abuse – Any form of bodily harm or mistreatment.
Emotional Abuse – Verbal aggression, intimidation, or psychological harm.
Sexual Abuse – Any non-consensual sexual act or behavior.
Neglect – Failing to provide adequate support or care.
Financial Exploitation – Improper use of a vulnerable person’s funds or assets.
4.2 Reporting Procedure
Immediate Action – If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services (999).
Inform the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) – All concerns should be reported to the Access Bridge DSL immediately.
Complete a Safeguarding Report – A written record should be documented, including dates, times, and key details.
Confidential Investigation – The DSL will assess the concern and take appropriate action.
Referral to Authorities – If required, the DSL will escalate the issue to the appropriate local safeguarding board, social services, or police.
Follow-up and Support – Access Bridge will provide appropriate support to the individual affected.
5. Safeguarding Responsibilities
5.1 Staff and Volunteers
Attend mandatory safeguarding training.
Follow safeguarding reporting procedures.
Maintain professional boundaries.
Act as role models in interactions with vulnerable individuals.
5.2 Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
Ensure safeguarding policies are up to date and implemented effectively.
Act as the main point of contact for safeguarding concerns.
Provide training and guidance to staff and volunteers.
Liaise with external safeguarding authorities when necessary.
6. Training and Awareness
All staff and volunteers undergo safeguarding training upon induction.
Regular refresher training sessions will be conducted annually.
Safeguarding resources and guidance materials will be made available to all team members.
7. Code of Conduct
Avoid one-on-one interactions in private settings with vulnerable individuals.
Always obtain consent before recording or sharing any personal information.
Refrain from inappropriate physical contact.
Maintain appropriate and professional communication.
8. Confidentiality and Data Protection
Personal data related to safeguarding concerns will be securely stored.
Information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis.
All data handling complies with GDPR regulations.
9. Policy Review
This safeguarding policy will be reviewed annually to ensure compliance with best practices and legal requirements.
Feedback from staff, volunteers, and stakeholders will be considered in each review.
